Our Commitment

Our journey began in 1975, when the first vines were planted on Lake Road in the unique soils of Gisborne. Three generations on, our drive is to continue to grow our grapes in such a way that we can do so for generations to come.

We are committed to sustainable practices, to ensure we are crafting exceptional wine while helping our environment, people, and community thrive.  We are certified under Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ), an industry-wide and world-leading sustainability programme led by New Zealand Winegrowers.

The programme is based on continuous improvement and alignment with standards and benchmarks, which ensures members meet best practice guidelines for sustainability in the vineyard and winery.

When you see the SWNZ logo displayed on our bottles, this means that our wine has been made from grapes grown in 100% SWNZ-certified vineyards and produced in 100% SWNZ-certified winemaking facilities. This is the customer’s guarantee of sustainable production – all the way from grape to glass. You can enjoy our wine knowing that it hasn’t cost the earth.

People and Community

Looking after our people and our community is integral to who we are.

We have a small and dedicated viticultural team who work with us year-round in the vineyard, caring for the grapes from seed through to harvest time. We are committed to retaining, educating and evolving our team so that they continue to be part of the success story behind Lake Road Wines.
