Vintage Report from the Winery:
Harvest 2013 has been finished for nearly two months now and all
of our wines have completed fermentation although a number are
still completing Malolactic fermentation. We have already had two
tastings of our ‘new wines’ and the winemaking team are excited
by the flavours we are seeing at this early stage.
The Gewurztraminer and the Pinot Gris are the closest to compl-
etion. The Gewurztraminer is displaying a great bouquet and due
to the high brix at harvest the residual is sitting at around 8g/L, this
will be a standout wine. The Pinot Gris is also showing great con-
centration and typical aromas of apple and pear. The Marlborough
Sauvignon Blanc will be the next wine finished and this is showing
great freshness and minerality.
For the rest of the wines it is still early days, but the hand-picked
Chardonnay barrel ferment portion and stainless blends are impres-
sive and the reds are showing outstanding colour. We look forward
to tasting these again in July to discern the emerging characters.
Lake Road will begin bottling the early varieties in July and we will be
launching our new Reserves label which is still ‘under wraps’. This
will be available to buy from October on our website, and we look
forward to showing our new look as soon as possible.
